There are up to 2 $100 deposits you will receive when the above process is completed.
  • The $100 general deposit will be returned to you if you do not have any money owing to MC or if you do not have library fines, etc.
  • The $100 housing deposit will be returned to you as long as you live on campus and there is no damage to your room, or if you were not assessed any fines during the year.
You can choose to have the money returned to your credit /debit card [this is best] or you can request a check.  You will likely not receive your check or credit card refund before you leave. One will be sent to you in your home country so be sure to put the correct address on the form.  Sponsored Students (IREX, World Learning, Study USA) - any deposits are returned to your sponsor.

Moving Out

Unless you completed a "break form application with the housing portal", you must move out of your room by May 1st at 9pm or May 5th by 9am for graduating students.

If you have a flight that leaves later than May 1st you need to fill out an extension form in your housing portal and be sure to speak with your RA about your plans.  Please notewhile the Residence Life Office is happy to help out, it is unlikely you will be able to stay later than Saturday or Sunday, and the answer may be different from hall to hall, floor to floor based on how quickly we need to turn over that room and staffing considerations.

Extra Items?

We can only take items that do not need to be washed.  We cannot accept furniture. Any items that you want to leave for future students must be in 1 box that can be closed.

Moving Out

If you have not applied for summer housing, you must move out of your room by May 1st at 9pm.

If you need to store items, please talk to Residence Life (3rd floor Bartlett) to ask about the possibility of storing any items.

In general, the college does not provide storage space over the summer, but they are willing to consider the extenuating circumstances of international students.  Space will be limited, and if you have an option to store things with a friend off campus it is appreciated.

*Maryville College is not responsible for any items stored. Items must be picked up by the end of summer semester. Any items not picked up will be donated.
**International House CANNOT store items for you over the summer.

Summer Housing

Limited summer housing is available and there is an application process through your portal. For more information, contact Residence.Life@maryvillecollege.edu

Summer Health Insurance Coverage

If you are EXTENDING your stay at Maryville College, you will need to extend your insurance coverage. Otherwise, you should have insurance that goes through August 10, 2024 as a returning student. It is your responsibility to check your insurance portal to verify your coverage dates.

Summer School

Did you know that although scholarships are not available, courses are cheaper (per credit hour) in the summer?  See what is offered: Summer Courses.

Immigration Reminders

Important Documents

  • Passport: make sure your passport is valid for at least six months at all times. This is issued by your home country. In many cases, you can get in renewed through your embassy here in the USA.
  • I-94 (print out from I-94 website):  This tracks your arrivals and departures and verifies you were documented as entering in F-1/J-1 status. You should keep a printout each time you enter the USA.
  • I-20: This is the document that allows you to study in the U.S.A. (at Maryville College) as an F-1 student. This document is issued by Maryville College, and governs what you can study, any benefits associated with your status, and how long you can stay in the USA.
  • DS-2019: This is the document that allows you to study in the U.S.A. (at Maryville College) as a J-1 student. This document is issued by Maryville College, and you will need it for your appointment at the embassy, to enter the U.S.A. and to maintain your status in the U.S.A.
  • Entry visa (colorful stamp in passport):  This document allows you to enter the United States.  This is issued at a U.S. Embassy abroad.  It only tells you the window of time that you can enter the United States. If it expires while you are studying you are eligible to remain in the US until your I-20 program end date.  If you choose to leave the US after it expires and plan to return to the US, you will need to renew your entry visa.  Check with the US embassy in your home country for their policies on visa renewal and appointments.

iMentor Program

Leadership Opportunity 2024-25

Each semester, new international students enroll in classes at Maryville College. Being new to the area, these students are excited to meet returning International & American students, learn more about the U.S., experience the local culture and for some, improve their English Language skills. The iMentor program facilitates connections between International and Domestic students and provides a structured program to maintain connections throughout academic year (or semester).

Let us know if you want to be an iMentor now!

  •  Be a leader and ambassador for MC
  •  Practice NACE competency skills (cross cultural fluency, communication)
  •  Enrich understanding of self and others by making a connection with someone who is culturally, ethnically, religiously, etc, different from oneself.
