Dara's Adventures in the UK: Classes (Modules-if you want the British Term)

Wow!! It has been such a long time since I last wrote a post!! There has been so much to do and so many adventures to be had!! There have been classes, trips, trains, shopping, sleeping…so much to talk about!! Since this study abroad experience is mainly a school experience, I think I should talk about school and classes first. I have successfully made it through my first two weeks of classes without in incidents. I think this is an accomplishment all in itself. I started off being enrolled in Policy, Ideology and Welfare, Introduction to Social Policy, Introduction in Forensic Biology and Modern Political Thought. There was a minor problem with this schedule because Policy, Ideology, and Welfare and Intro to Social Policy were going to transfer back to Maryville as the same class. I thought this was pretty lame and decided to try and find another class to take so that I could make the most out of my time here at the University of Worcester. So after about a dozen emails to my new professor and Lois, my advisor here, I am now enrolled in Europe, 1789-1914 instead of Intro to Social Policy.
Once I got those two class change my schedule consists of 2 classes on Mondays and 2 classes on Thursdays. I think this is an AMAZING set up!! I have plenty of time to work on assignments and to go places and have adventures! I do find myself somewhat bored at times but then I very quickly think of something fun and interesting to do. There are always museums that can be visited!
Classes are pretty different here than at Maryville College also. The major difference in my opinion is that there are only 2 assignments per semester that the students have to complete, whereas at MC students have homework and assignments that are due almost every lecture. Only having 2 assignments does sort of worry me however, because those are the only 2 things that are grade. So, if I should mess up on only one of them and make a bad grade then my grade for the whole class will suffer. At home I like our grading system because if you mess up on one assignment or paper then there are always other assignments to help counteract that one bad grade. Only having two assignments per class is a lot less stressful than the work load at MC though. I feel like I can spend a great deal more time on any one of my assignments than when I have to split my time between 10 little assignments in one week.
Also, for the first time in my life I have 4 male teachers! I have always had a majority of female teachers all the way through my educational career. It is great to see the difference between male and female teachers. I haven’t decided if I like one over the other but I like having a variety. I am also surprised that I am not having any trouble understanding what the teachers are saying either. This was one of my main concerns before I left. I actually had my mom get me a voice recorder for Christmas last year just in case I was having trouble with accents.
Well I only have 9 more teach weeks left before I am back in the state and I will definitely try to post more often now that I am settled in. I need to continue working on one of my 3 papers that are due in November now. Tomorrow I will post about trips I have taken since being at Worcester!! May God watch over all of you until my next post!
