Day 2: Arriving in Glen Coe

It’s day two of our Scotland tour, and I believe I speak for everyone when I say that we are beat! Those of us who slept during our nine hour flight to London (which left at 11 pm, May 23rd) awoke to find the plane crossing the beautiful green land of Ireland. It wasn’t long until we landed in the bustling city of London. From there on the day was filled with running (quite literally) through the London airport, boarding our connecting flight to Glasgow, and then finally uniting with our wonderful Casterbridge Tour guides.
We split into two buses (Orange and Garnet) and headed deeper into the green hills of Scotland. Passing through the suburbs of Glasgow, we traveled through mountains and hills which reminded many of us of our own East Tennessee scenery. To our delight, we even made a pit stop along the way at Loch Lomond! We made certain to dip our feet in and sing the song, of course. We then continued our journey to Glencoe Valley, learning interesting tales about the peat in the marshes and “Monroe packing” along the way. Around 7:30 we finally arrived at the Isle of Glencoe Hotel, which sits at the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.
Tucked into our Hotel in Glencoe Valley, after having been fed a wonderful three-course dinner consisting of decadent Scottish cuisine like Haggis and home-made bread pudding, I believe we are all content to sit down and enjoy the company of friends. It is ten o’clock, the sun is setting, and we are all overjoyed to finally be in Scotland!
