Living Like a Local - Newsletter Vol 2

One potential piece of your Cultural Blueprint is occurring this Sunday, February 11th. A uniquely all-American event and unwritten National holiday…The Super Bowl.  The Super Bowl is the annual league championship game of the National Football League (NFL) of the United States. It has served as the final game of every NFL season since 1966. This year the two teams are the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. Over 115 million people watch this game and the average cost to run an advertisement during the game is 7 million dollars for 30 seconds. The players get a bonus of $164,000 if they win.

 49ers fans

 Chiefs fans

Even if they are not football fans, most Americans watch this game and especially pay attention to the (expensive) commercials and the halftime show. The Super Bowl halftime show is historically the most watched musical performance of the year. This year, global superstar singer Usher will be performing. Super Bowl Sunday is a day for gathering with friends and family, indulging in unhealthy snacks, and cheering on a team of athletes. Personally, I use this day as an excuse to eat a lot of junk food…

sit on my couch and enjoy an American pastime. I generally ignore the game and only watch the commercials and the musical performance. I highly encourage you to participate in this cultural experience.

👌WORD OF THE WEEK: Fixin'

This is one of the most common and most Southern phrases that's still in use. It means that you're about to (or thinking about) doing something.

I’m fixin’ to go get dinner.

👍PHRASE OF THE WEEK: Preaching to the choir.

This means that you are presenting an argument or opinion to people who already agree with you.

I know I’m preaching to the choir about this so I doubt there will be any disagreement.

🍲RECIPE OF THE WEEK: Pimento Cheese

I never had this until I moved to the south and now I love it!
