International Education Internship
Maryville College announces an internship to work with the Director of International Education to support International and Study Abroad students at the College. The intern is introduced to a variety of aspects of international education programming during his/her term: international student services, study abroad programming, ESL programming, and international admissions.
Dates: Start June 1, 2011, will last until May 30, 2012. Full-time (some flexibility of hours)
Specific Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
• International / Campus Programming: Developing, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating campus programming, including International Education Week
• International Student Activities & Events: Summer & evening social, cultural and event programming for international students, including events sponsored by the Global Citizenship Organization (GCO).
• Study Abroad Marketing & Advising: Introducing US students to study abroad opportunities, and contributing to annual marketing campaign.
• Administrative Support & Projects: for the Center for International Education
• Orientation & Advising: Mentoring international exchange students and degree-seeking international students as part of the College’s Peer Partner, Cultural Ambassadors, & orientation program. Design and delivery of pre-departure meetings for study abroad. Close coordination with the Center for International Education and International Programming Committee.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required, with a relevant Master’s degree and experience appropriate to the above listed job responsibilities preferred.
• Prior overseas experience required, involving study, work or volunteer abroad
• Excellent communication skills (oral, written, computer)
• Sensitivity to and awareness of cultural differences
• Clean driving record and willingness to drive 15-passenger vans

• Depth of experience in a variety of international education areas. May be completed for credit (own institution)

Located in Maryville, Tennessee, Maryville College is ideally situated between the Great Smoky Mountains National Park and Knoxville, the state’s third largest city. Founded in 1819, it is the 12th oldest institution of higher learning in the South. Currently, international students represent close to 4% of the student population at Maryville College. In addition, the ESL program has been rated as one of the best intensive English programs in the United States, offering six levels of instruction to students who desire to improve their English. The College also has an established study abroad program with both bilateral and ISEP exchange relationships with over 125 different institutions in 40 different countries. Additionally, the College also regularly offers faculty-led experiential trips abroad; recent offerings include India, Brazil, Malta and Sicily, South Africa, and China.
