Well I’m sitting at the Detroit airport right now waiting to get on the plane to travel to England. I have been waiting on this day for over a year now and its finally here… It all still seems pretty surreal, probably because my dad, Richard, and brother, Daniel are with me. To back up a little bit for those of you who might not know, I am studying in England this semester! It will be an exciting adventure and chapter in my life, but at the same time it is still very nerve racking to think I am going to be away from my family and friends for 4 months.
The last week has been very stressful and honestly I got to the point when I was dreading leaving and couldn’t even make myself pack. Three days and two suitcases later, I think I packed everything that I needed and if not then I suppose I can also buy things when I get there. I really do hope things arent overly expensive over there because I am quite stingy when it comes to my own money…I have a feeling for the first time since I started college I will actually feel like the stereotypical “poor college student”.
I will try to post on this blog quite often and anytime something interesting or post worthy happens. I will most definitely post once a week. I do not even know right now if I’m writing this the correct way… I have never done a blog before so this will be an interesting adventure in itself for all of us. It my posts ever seem a bit random it is because I am typing whatever comes to my mind. I hope that is how blogging is supposed to work. Anyways…I am actually arriving in England 2 weeks before I move into school. The first week Dad, Daniel and I will be staying with Dad’s cousin outside of London. We will be doing most of the touristy things like the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, and the London Eye. I will definitely post some picture if I can figure out how too!
Well I am about to get on the plane so I will finish this blog when I arrive in England….
TWO Days later..
It has taken me a lot longer to finish this first blog post than I thought it would. We have now been in London 2 days and we have already done loads of stuff. I have definitely noticed some culture differences already… One being the lack of Southern friendly and hospitality. When on the underground (subways) in London people won’t even look at you much less talk to you. This is really funny when you are traveling with two people who wish to talk to everyone. I have always had some wonderful English food also. On our first night, we had Shepard’s pie and it was really wonderful.
We have also seen a good number of attractions already also. We have been to the Natural History and Science museum. Just today we also saw the Tower of London, Tower Bridge, London Bridge, and Winston Church’s Britain at War Museum.
Well I think that is enough for just now….More soon Hopefully!!
