Exploring Costa Rica’s Blue Zone

It’s with a heavy heart that I write this blog post, as I’m about to leave Costa Rica and head back to America. Needless to say, I’ve had the most amazing time abroad. For the past 4 days, we’ve been chilling on the Nicoya Peninsula, one of the worlds Blue Zone’s (places where a high concentration of people live longer than average).

On the first full day here, we took the time to hang out on the beach and relax. An important part of this leg of the trip is been focusing on “downshift” time to just enjoy what’s around us and not stress. We also went to the Blue Zone business in Nicoya to see how they grow products that native Costa Ricans often eat, and how they protect the scarlet macaw.

On the next day here, I learned how to surf! It was super exhilarating to be up on the board for even a few seconds. It was such an incredible experience! That night, we got to see a baby turtle that was left behind by its siblings be released into the ocean. We learned about the organization that helps protect the turtles in Nicoya as well. It was beautiful, and I had a great time.

We ended out the trip with a beautiful catamaran ride last night. We rode on the boat, got fresh fruit and delicious snacks, swam in the ocean, and even saw a seal and lots of dolphins playing around our ship. It was the most magical way to end the most magical trip. I’ll be reveling in my memories of Costa Rica for a long time. If you get the chance, come and see this beautiful place! It has truly changed my life.
