quick forgotten cultural note...

Last Monday night we went to Kara's piso for dinner where her and Busra (from Turkey) cooked dinner.  They made homemade stir fry and we all pitched in to help make sangria.  We cut up fresh pineapple, mandarines, strawberries, and kiwi and layered them all in tall glasses and then added white wine, orange juice, and sprite and let them sit while we finished dinner.  Their stir fry was wonderful, then we had our dessert of some kind of version of a chocolate mousse roll.  Then we had our amazing, colorful sangria and after lots of fun and conversation Busra began to make us all some Turkish coffee.  They boil their coffee in the water so that you have to let it cool before drinking it and let the grounds settle in the bottom.  After finishing the coffee as a Turkish cultural practice you put the saucer on top of the cup and flip it upside down.  Once the cup has cooled you  remove the cup from the saucer and Busra read us our fortune based on the design that the coffee grounds made in our cup.  As soon as our fortune was told w had to go wash our cup out for good luck.  This was definitely a lot of fun and another wonderful cultural experience.
