Language is a guide to social reality, I experienced this being a part of ESL program in MARYVILLE COLLEGE, TN. Through the lens of language course i perceived the American culture. As i recall my first day at the MC when we were supposed to attend the Ice bear hockey match at knoxville, at first i was amazed by how passionate American people are for their sports,
they were men, women and children, enjoying and chanting for their respective teams. There they taught me that how to find joys in simple things. Waking up at 7:00am in morning everyday, though its hard but yet the classes were worth attending, our teachers provided us with a very interactive ambiance leaving no room for students to hesitate, the teaching way is impressive. I now know how to play PHASE 10 :-).Being in MC, I not only became familiar with American Culture but also
with Brazilian and Japanese cultural values too. As I was staying at Nashville, whenever I intended to take a pool stick to play , there was not a single time that I didn't find any person to teach me how to play, and that is what I truly admire in American people that no matter from which part of world you are they are always ready to welcome you and help you in any possible way.No matter how many steps you are away from the door, if Americans found you coming while they are passing by that door, they would keep holding the door open for you. Going to Knoxville downtown is itself an opportunity to get to the grounds of knowing the music and arts of the people of America, visiting the Tennessee theater, going to sun sphere and walking in the market attracted me more towards the American architecture and arts. Gatlinburg tour was one of the unforgettable tour as it made me challenge my ownself for something i never ever tried because i had fear of falling and that day i for the first time tried to do ice skating, i did fall but i regained myself to learn more of it.
If i wrap all my three weeks in MC i would just say MC blessed me with new approach of looking into the life, finding joys in little things and accepting everything that adds up to your knowledge.
