Scotland: Settling in

I have officially been in Edinburgh for one week now. While much of my time has been spent getting lost running around town buying essentials for this semester, I’ve been happily and expectedly overloaded with new experiences. First off, I am proud to say that I can now navigate international airports alone, which is a huge feat that had been daunting me since turning in my application to study abroad. During this time, specifically in the Washington airport, I was lucky enough to run into my future roommate, Sophia. Her and I hit it off pretty quick, so she’s been by my side along with my two other roommates, Marina and Julie, whom I later met. After the four of us dropped our luggage off and spent a few days recuperating from travel, we hit up Princes’ Street, the main drag in Edinburgh. With getting ready for our academic semester to start, we haven’t been able to visit many of the bigger tourist attractions, but today we enjoyed some much need hot chocolate at the Elephant House. This cozy cafĂ© is supposedly where J.K. Rowling was inspired to write the Harry Potter series, so it was kind of awesome. Besides that, we befriended our first Scottish person, whose name is Maurry, earlier in the week, I got lost multiple times trying to make my way home on the bus line, my roommates and I are already planning side trips all over Europe, I’ve pick up playing poker, and school starts tomorrow. Finally, as expected, I am starting to sense what might become some home sickness. I’m not too worried because it’s only my first week, so I have very much to keep me preoccupied. I’m just getting a feel for this city and am super excited to experience what it has to offer, and since I now have all the essentials out of the way, it’s my plan to take as many pictures as possible for here on out. Cheers!
