This Could be the Start of Something New...

Hola and greetings from España!

Today I landed in Madrid at 8:00 in the morning. With the 6 hour time difference we can say I was just a tad bit tired. I only have one day here in Madrid though since I need to check-in with my school in Pamplona tomorrow. With this knowledge, I grabbed a cab headed to my hostel where I dropped my bags and hit the city.

Let me just say that Madrid is beautiful. This is European city number one on my journey but I'm thoroughly impressed. It seems completely unreal to me that I'm here. I walked around sort of in a daze looking at all of the major attractions of the city and I was amazed at the beauty of everything. The city screams history and culture and I LOVE it.

One of my favorite things I saw was the Palacio de Cristol  It is a fairly simple structure but it is so elegant to me. I'm constantly impressed by the architectural genius in this city and can't wait to see what the rest of the country has in store.

Below is the Palacio...
Inside there was this really cool but also highly creepy art display that is shown in the picture below:

I did a lot of cool things today and it was only day 1! I cannot even imagine what the rest of my time will hold.

I'm sure a lot of you are wondering the big one: How's your Spanish?

That's a good question. I've had ups and downs today. I've made a few successful purchases, asked for directions somewhat adequately but I've also stumbled to produce a solid thought. Also people have stopped me on the street to ask for directions and I feel really awful because I just have to give them the deer in the headlights look and mumble "No sé, lo siento". I'm sure It'll get better everyday. I've even noticed that a lot of the day while walking I was processing what I saw and felt in Spanish so that has to be some sort of a good sign.

Tomorrow I take a bus to Pamplona and will do all of my settling there.

Until next time!

P.S. I took my first official siesta and it was beautiful.
