España es Muy Diferente

Another week has come and gone in Madrid and I still have not been pickpocketed! Madrid definitely has the feel of home and I am still amazed daily by the lifestyle here. With that said, it is very obvious that this is a different country. My Spanish has improved quite a lot since I arrived but I still struggle with the language barrier. Many times I attempt to speak what I feel is correct spanish and will end up receiving strange and disgust looks for speaking improper Spanish. This is to be expected but is still very frustrating to deal with. In addition, I also feel very odd man put around the local Spaniards. They often won’t give me a chance to speak Spanish because they assume I only speak English

This is something I have actually noticed about Madrid. While there is quite a lot of different people they all sometimes tend to mesh together in one big Spanish mush. I mean by this in America, you often see an Indian, Asian and black person in one class. However, here you never see it anywhere. The Spaniards are very uncomfortable with change and care mostly about family. This is not a complaint of mine but rather an observation. I can’t believe I have to go soon because this has been the best summer of my life :)
