Surviving the Heat

So here in Europe, a major heatwave just finished rearing its ugly head. Yesterday was the worst with temperatures climbing to 102 degrees. And fun fact, Germany does not do air conditioning. On Wednesday we were supposed to go on a field trip, but even our professor thought it was too hot to move! So he ended up taking us to a poet's grave nearby then treating us to drinks at a biergarten. It was nice to skip sitting in the classroom for three hours.

We were so miserable yesterday, we decided to head to the Wannsee to get away from the heat for a bit. It was a blessed relief, but it did remind us that we were in Europe as we saw multiple shirtless women. It didn't really faze us, though, as we were just happy to be out of the blazing heat. The lake was beautiful! I'm usually not a fan of swimming in lakes, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

It's hard to believe we're over halfway through our study abroad experience. Homesickness has come and gone, but overall I am so thankful that I get to do this. It's going to be hard to go home, but I certainly won't mind being reunited with my friends and family.
