Week 7 - Last Weekend Exploration and Bastille Day!

As my time here is coming to a close, I have spent most of my weekend trying to see everything that I still haven't seen yet. Friday for class, we had a museum day and since we were going to go to the Catacombs before the reserved tickets sold out, I decided to still go there. It did not disappoint though. Walking through the underground ossuary was kind of creepy for starters, but the further you went into it the less creepy it became. It was actually quite interesting to learn about some of the things led them to place the remains of Parisians there instead of in the cemetery. They even had some really strange designs going on with the skulls. Here's one of them.

On Saturday, I went to a few more places that I had always wanted to see. My first stop that morning was the Luxembourg Gardens. I even had time to sit in the plaza area and listen to the band play just a few feet down from where I was sitting. There was some kind of event going on there for a while.

Once I finally decided to leave there, I walked over to Sainte-Chapelle, hoping to get in there quickly. This was a place that I never really expected to go to before being here. However, many of my coworkers and friends were telling me that I had to visit before I left so I made it a point to go and I'm definitely glad that I did. It was an absolutely stunning piece of Gothic art.

Later on that day, I went to Shakespeare and Co. which was just as amazing as I thought it would be. Shakespeare and Company is probably one of the most famous independent bookstores so it was very fitting for me to go there on my last weekend in Paris.

Lastly, today was Bastille Day (France's Independence Day) and while I didn't get out much during the day because of homework and last minute projects, I spent my evening among French people enjoying the fireworks that were set off above the Eiffel Tower. All in all, I'll say that it was a perfect last full weekend in this beautiful city that has won over my heart.
