Today, I realized that, in Swedish grocery stores, there is no aisle dedicated to every imaginable sub-genre of soda like there is in the U.S. Instead, there is a vast selection of juices from which one can choose anything from apple to lingonberry. Upon contemplating this contrast, I recognized one of the subtle but profound ways culture plays a role in the development of one’s values. In my case, I find it very interesting that while I don’t mind drinking Mountain Dew every now and then– despite its color resembling that of irradiated piss– I will simply not buy juice that is from concentrate. Hmm.
