Dara's Adventures in the UK: Halfway

Well I’m over half through my semester here at the University of Worcester. It seems like time has flown by. I haven’t actually been homesick in the since that I really ever wanted to leave Worcester, but I won’t lie and say I haven’t been counting down the days until I go home. There is officially 33 days until I go home now. Next week when there is officially 30 days until I go home I am going to be blogging every day about things I miss about America and things I will miss about Worcester.
On a school front, my classes are going amazing! I am really enjoying all of them and it is funny because two of them are actually very similar in content except one is history focused and one is politics focused. I have also turned in my first 3 assignments, and all 3 assignments were essays. I promise that I will never again complain about the minimum word or page count a teacher at Maryville gives me. I will be the first to say that having a maximum word count of only 1,000 words is 10 times harder than having to write a paper between 8 and 10 pages or a minimum of 1,500 words.
In relation to turning my essays in I have noticed that EVERYTHING here is done through a third party and it is rather irritating!! For example, when I told my professor that I was an exchange student and that I need to know when I could take my exams, she referred me to someone in students services. That person then told me I had to confirm with two additional people what classes I had to make arrangements for. This truly made me mad because at Maryville I am used to working out everything with the professor of the class. It truly is a lot easier that way.
Anyways that’s enough of talking about school. I’m going out to eat with Caitlin, Emily and Michelle this Saturday. They are girls that were at Maryville last spring. I am super excited about this because I haven’t gotten to spend nearly enough time with them. (Being an international student we are sort of separated from the rest of the student body.) I also haven’t gotten to go out to eat a lot and honestly I am really tired of cooking all my food all the time. I miss being able to just go to Isacc’s or Pearson’s and get food.
Some of the other international girls and I also went to Bath last weekend. It was one of my favorite places I have been so far. The city was absolutely beautiful and the shopping and site seeing was amazing too. We also went to Stonehenge with totally bewildered me. I mean how did people that long ago know how to get those huge rocks and stand them up and get them to stay up?
Well that’s really all I have to say for now…I need to start working on my assignments that are due in December. Have an amazing Thanksgiving and eat lots of Turkey and mashed potatoes for me!!!
