Bonjour!
This week in Paris was mostly spent working at my internship. I took a relaxing weekend to catch up on work for my Seminar class and this week we jumped right into the last minute details for the annual Gala at the American Library in Paris. This event is one of the biggest that the library hosts each year so it was really interesting to be a part of all the planning that is involved with it. Throughout this week, I did so many things that contributed to the success of the Gala. I spent most of my time cutting and folding table cards, tying ribbons on chocolate boxes, and book stamping our guest speaker's novels to give to our guests upon their arrival. Due to all of my work for the event, I was able to meet celebrated author Martin Amis as he came into the library to sign the 200 books that I previously stamped. Today, I also got a look at the venue that is hosting the Gala and to say that it was amazing would be an understatement.
Along with all the Gala prep, we upheld our regular hours and smaller events. One of our events this week was pretty fun as well. We had Ottessa Moshfegh as a guest for our Evenings with an Author series at the library in which she read from her newest novel, My Year of Rest and Relaxation, participated in a short Q&A afterwards, and signed books. I was lucky enough to have a book signed by her and speak to her briefly before she left. My internship has definitely become one of my favorite parts of each day.
After a long day of work on Tuesday, however, I met up with some friends from back home who have come to Paris and we went to the Eiffel Tower. I fulfilled a lifelong dream of watching the Tower light up at sundown. Also it was pretty great to see some familiar faces after a few weeks of being in Paris!
