Week 5 - Heat Wave, Les Soldes, and Work

Summer has officially hit Europe and it is literally so hot. I thought living in the South was miserable through the summer months, but this is almost on a different level. With no air conditioning in most places (especially in our apartments), it makes it ten times worse. This, however, did not stop any of us from getting out and viewing the city. In fact, what else are we going to do if our room is just as hot? Many people had the same idea as well because the streets were full!

Les Soldes also started this week which is one of the two big sales in France as they are trying to make way for the new things that they plan on selling for the next season. This sale is huge because everything has a major discount. I participated because when you can get nice clothes for very little, you don't turn it down. The stores were so packed with people trying to get their deals on their favorite outfits. As I walked past many stores, there were sign outside that had the discounts. They ranged from 50% all the way to 70 and 80%. My coworkers were the ones who told me about the sales going on. They said that this is primarily when the French shop. Often, they will scope out what they want to buy closer to the time of the sales so that they know what's there when the sales hit. But it was definitely an interesting thing to experience and to get some really good deals.

Other than Les Soldes and being outside for most of the weekend trying to find some semblance of air conditioning, I was busy at work. This week was definitely something. I got to meet some really cool people at our events, even though most of them went way over their time and I stayed much later than expected. I even got to meet a famous actor and playwright at one of these events and it was probably the coolest thing ever! Because of working long hours this week, I didn't really see much else of the city, but it was definitely a good week.
